I was lucky enough to grow up in a family that loved music. My parents are both singers and my dad plays the guitar. As a family we have spent many hours over the years playing and singing together. I knew from an early age that I wanted to teach music and help others make this wonderful gift a part of their lives.
When I was 8 years old I was inspired by a friend to pick up the flute and began my first formal music studies, and I have continued to study and perform this instrument ever since! I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Education with a vocal concentration and piano secondary from Wright State University in 1997, and I am certified in grades K-12. During my studies I discovered a love for the violin and took on extra classes in order to build my skills with this instrument. After graduating I taught general music for 6 years, and then decided to open my own private music studio. In addition, I am now just 3 classes away from earning my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Xavier University.
As a musician I mostly use my talents for singing and playing at church, but also perform at weddings, and private events. I have directed many musicals with students in grades K-8, and continue to hold 2 or more recitals a year with my private students.
Being a private music teacher is one of the greatest joys of my life. I currently teach piano, voice, violin, and flute. I have been teaching privately for a total of 20 years, and have been here at Western Hills Music since 2005. My main goals as a teacher include building relationships with my students, helping them reach their fullest potential as musicians, and providing performance opportunities for those who desire it.
